iTunes 9.0.2 Released !!!

An update to iTunes brings a few minor changes, including a much requested “dark background” for the people who can’t stand the glaring white one that shipped with iTunes 9.0. The full changelog for this update is below, and after the break is the fuller changelog for iTunes 9 (for those who still haven’t update yet!)

If you’re worried about problems with jailbreak, wait for the Dev Team to say it’s ok to update. (check their blog)

iTunes 9.0.2 adds support for Apple TV software version 3.0, adds an option for a dark background for Grid View, and improves support for accessibility.

iTunes 9 comes with many new features and improvements, including:

• An improved look and feel, including a new Column Browser for easily browsing your artists or albums, movies, TV shows, and more.

• iTunes Store has a brand new look, with improved navigation for quick and easy exploration.

• iTunes 9 also includes many other improvements, such as HE-AAC encoding and playback, more flexibility with Smart Playlists rules, simpler organization of your media files inside an iTunes Media folder, and more.

iPhone 4G Rumors

Fire up the old rumor machine, the often discussed Apple Table gained a bit more coverage today.

Firstly, Bell Keller, Executive Editor of the NY Times, dropped a mention of the Apple Tablet into a speech of his. Whether he was referring to advance knowledge, or just the what might be coming, is not known. The speech was from an internal meeting, and was meant to be “off the record”, but was recorded and hosted by Niemen Journalism Lab at Harvard.

The second bit of information comes from Chinese manufacturer Foxconn, rumored hardware provider for the Tablet. The photo below is for a new SIM tray, apparently for use in the iPhone 4G, or the Apple Tablet. It’s a pretty slim piece of information, as there’s nothing concrete linking it to any Apple gear. That’s why it’s a rumor, folks.

PlaySafe 1.1

If you use your iPhone or iPod touch to listen to music in the car, PlaySafe might just save your life!

PlaySafe is designed to make using your iPhone or iPod touch easier to operate when driving (and therefore safer). We've made the whole screen one giant button so you don't have to take your eyes off the road and search for tiny icons. You can easily control your music with simple finger gestures without even looking at the screen!

Just tap anywhere on the screen to start or stop the music or swipe sideways to skip to the next or previous tracks.

If you do decide to sneak a look at the screen you won't be disappointed - PlaySafe looks great too. It's minimal interface leaves plenty of room for your cover artwork to shine. Play/Pause

Next/Previous track
Swipe to the left for the next track or to the right for the previous one - just as if you were scrolling through albums in coverflow.

URGENT: Some users are reporting crashes when adding all their songs to PlaySafe. If this happens, delete and re-install the app and everything should be fine.

Avoid Error 16xx on Custom restore.

I heard a lot of people having this Error 16xx (1600, 1604 etc) while custom restoring their iphone 2g, 3G or 3GS through iTunes. So i decided to write this simple tutorial on how to avoid these errors.

I have tried this method on 4 different iPhone 3G with different firmwares and it worked on all of them.

2 days back, i had to unlock my Friend's Iphone. His iPhone was on 3.1 with Baseband 4.26.08. I had custom Firmware for 3.1.2 (I made it myself using PWNAGE TOOL in Mac, so there was nothing wrong with the Firmware as such). I tried to custom restore it with latest iTunes 9.0.1 but iTunes left that iphone in recovery mode and showed me the error 1604. I tried couple of times but same Error. So tried the solution given below.

Problem
Sometimes when you try to custom restore your iPhone (Loading the firmware pressing SHIFT+RESTORE in iTunes), after extracting the firmware, the iTunes will show you an Error (16xx) and will leave your iPhone in Recovery mode (iTunes+USB cable Logo on ur Iphone). No matter how hard u try to restore it with custom firmware, your iPhone will remain in recovery Mode. Even if you turn off ur Iphone and then Turn it On again, same thing will happen. So what to do to solve this problem?

Solution
Follow these steps very carefully.

1) Disconnect ur iPhone from PC.
2) Turn Off iPhone.

Now we are going to put iPhone in DFU Mode (its not recovery Mode)

3) Connect ur Iphone with PC using USB cable.
4) Hold POWER and HOME Button at the same Time.
5) While Holding the HOME button, leave Power button after 5 seconds.
6) After 10 seconds leave Home Button also.

now you are in DFU mode. Most of the problems occur coz u r not completely in DFU mode but you think you are.

7) Now open iTunes , Shift+Restore, iTunes will not give you any kinda error. If it still gives u an Error, u are not in DFU mode.

I have tested these steps on iPhone 3G with following Firmware and basebands.
- Firmware 3.0 , Baseband 4.26.08
- Firmware 3.0.1 , Baseband 4.26.08
- Firmware 3.1 , Baseband 5.11.07
- Firmware 3.1.2 , Baseband 5.11.07
- Firmware 3.1 , Baseband 4.26.08

Apple's Magic Mouse (Waoooo)

As forecast by alert bloggers reading Apple's patent applications, the new mouse has multi-touch input over the entire top surface. A contextual menu can be brought up by tapping the upper left-hand corner, and this is user-configurable so that lefties can use the upper-right corner.

You can scroll vertically with a forward-back movement of your finger, and horizontally when you drag side to side. Keeping your finger on the surface allows precise control, while swiping causes the movement to continue with the momentum of your movement. The surface also supports free movement in both X and Y axes by scrolling in circles on the top of the mouse. This will take some getting used to, but I have a feeling I'll end up wondering how I got by without it. Swiping with two fingers, on the other hand, sends a "previous" or "next" command. This will allow you to skip tracks in iTunes, for example, or turn pages. Holding down the control key while scrolling allows you to zoom your screen: an up-scroll to zoom in and a down-scroll to zoom out.

Functions of the Magic Mouse are customizable in System Preferences, including the option to just turn off the multi-touch features.

Dev-Team Confirms: New Bootrom Defeats 24kpwn

As noted here on MMi last night, new iPhone 3GSes are shipping with an updated bootrom that is resistant to 24kpwn. Dev-Team member MuscleNerd confirms that the new bootrom, iBoot-359.3.2, is no longer vulnerable to the memory segment overrun exploit.

This is the first time Apple has upgraded the bootrom during a normal production cycle, rather than when a new model is introduced. The bootrom is a snippet of code that runs at startup time, and checks on the status of the boot image. It's generally used to verify that the image has not been corrupted, but can also be used to check for unauthorized firmware. The 24kpwn exploit - otherwise known as 0x24000 Segment Overflow - bypassed the signature checks on iBoot and allowed unsigned firmware to be loaded. The new bootrom makes that impossible, so currently shipping 3GS phones cannot be jailbroken until a new exploit is found.

To determine if your new 3GS is running the new bootrom, just check System Profiler while the phone is in DFU mode. Versions of iBoot prior to 359.3.2 should still be able to be jailbroken using known methods.

Jailbreaking iPhone 3G and 3GS on Windows 3.1.2

These are the instructions for the Windows users who want to upgrade to 3.1.2 preserving their basebands so that they can use ultrasn0w to unlock.

PLEASE TRY ALL THE INSTRUCTION AT YOUR OWN RISK


Please note that if you have one of the following then you can use this custom firmware

1) iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS
2) You are on official Carrier / ultrasn0w User.
3) You have already pwned / not pwned your iPhone before.
4) This tutorial is not for iPhone 2G users.

Please download the files below first to proceed further.

1) Custom Firmware 3.1.2 (For people with Official Carrier SIM)

2) Custom Firmware 3.1.2 (For people with ultrasn0w)

Note that both above Firmwares will preserve the baseband, so your baseband wont get updated in either case.

After downloading the file, follow the instructions below.

If you have PWNED your iPhone before then simply follow the instructions given below, else get to the DFU mode first and then follow the instructions.

1) Make sure you have latest iTunes (9.0.1)

2) Open iTunes

3) Connect your iPhone to PC

4) When your iPhone gets detected by iTunes, go to iPhone, go to Summary tab.

5) Hold the Shift button from your keyboard and Press the RESTORE button in the Summary tab.

6) A browse window will open, give it the file you have downloaded earlier (Custome Firmware 3.1.2)

Thats all you have to do. iTunes will restore your iPhone and when its finished doing, you ll have ur iphone jailbroken, with Cydia installed.

Ultrasn0w users go to Cydia and install ultrasn0w.
